A Personal Note From Crista

Hi,

I'm a movie star now.

Ok. Not really. But I did officially make it to IMDB, the internet movie database.

A couple of years ago I played "CPR Woman" in a film called Deadland Dreaming. I saved the lead character from drowning, hence the unique character name.

Because I am now an "official" actor, something interesting opened up....

My boyfriend Louie is a big math nerd (I love you sweetie!) and he figured out that because of my role in Deadland Dreaming I have a Bacon Number of 3.

Ok. So what the heck is a Bacon number? It's an actor's lineage to Kevin Bacon through movies. It's like a six degrees of separation thing but within the film industry.

Here's how it works: I was in Deadland Dreaming with Maurice Moore. (That's a picture of me and him by the way...) Maurice Moore was in The Life of David Gale with Laura Linney. Laura Linney was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon. So I'm just three actors away from Kevin Bacon.

My boyfriend is VERY excited about my Bacon Number. He wanted me to share this fact with the world. So there you go...

Smiles,
Crista

P.S. I'll be having lunch with Kevin next week. Just kidding.

Get What You Want From Your Boyfriend, Don't Fall Into The Hint Trap

By Crista Beck

I realized again that hints don't work!

In so many of my articles I repeatedly stress the importance of being direct with men. But even I slip up sometimes...

My boyfriend Louie and I were at the market and we passed some really yummy chocolate. He likes to buy me chocolate because he knows it makes me happy. So in an over emphasized way I said, " Mmmmm, look at that yummy chocolate."

"I would just love it if someone would buy that for me. Mmmmmm." I got a kick out of myself because I THOUGHT I was being really obvious.

We continued strolling through the store and as we were heading towards the register he asked, "Do you need anything else?"

I said, "Yeah, how about some of that chocolate?"

He said, "What chocolate?"

At that point I realized my error! I used a HINT.

HINTS don't work with men.

I had to laugh at myself. I fell into the hint trap.

I asked him, "So you didn't get the hint I was giving you when we were over there earlier?" He said, "No."

"So what should I do next time? Should I just say, Can you buy me that chocolate?"

He said, "Yes."

Wow. So simple.

This little incident just reminded me again how hints don't work. Being direct is powerful and effective.

So next time I want some chocolate, or anything for that matter, I'm going to be direct.

"Babe, can you buy me this chocolate?"

And then, chances are that I am going to get the chocolate.

I know that this is a very simple little example, but we women use hints all the time with our men. And not just with the simple little things like wanting chocolate, but with the BIG things too. We use hints to communicate our needs. We use hints to tell him what we want for our birthday. We use hints to let him know what we like sexually.

This is a big problem because he will not get the hint. And then we wind up feeling hurt and rejected because we thought we communicated effectively with him. WRONG.

The best thing to do is to be DIRECT. Tell him directly what you want for your birthday. Tell him directly about your needs.

I know this is difficult for us women. To be direct is to be vulnerable. Being vulnerable can be scary. But being vulnerable will have your man love you even more. And it will also make him happy in the relationship because then he will know what he can do to make you happy.

So start being direct. You will save yourself a lot of frustration, PLUS you will increase the chances of getting what you want!
